#606 We're home and have a mystery

We arrived home around 2:45 PM Saturday afternoon. We were able to do our weekly grocery shopping on the way. The commissary will be closed for the holiday and we had the time. Hurray. We will be able to eat for a while.

Maryann had the first load of laundry in shortly after we put the groceries away. The van was unloaded and everything put away within an hour of our being home. It is great to be back. Don't get me wrong, we had a great time with all of the kids. We even had time to check out a few wineries in Oregon and have lunch with some old friends who had moved to the Portland area from Leavenworth. It was good to see them again.

Now for the mystery. While unpacking I noticed something unique among the plants on a table in the sun room. We generally don't have gnomes in our garden. We do have a garden fairy, a rabbit, and a Buddha in the garden, but no gnomes.

He seems to be casing the place. Perhaps he is thinking of taking up permanent residence.

(Click on pictures to make them larger.)

I didn't pay too much attention to it and continued with the requisite chores upon arriving home after three weeks on the road. I did find a soccer ball on the patio. Maryann went out on the patio to look at some of the plants and saw this strange phenomenon.

We thought we might miss the blossoming of our peony plants. We could see them from the street as we stopped at the stop sign prior to turning the corner and onto our driveway. They are beautiful, as you can see.

"If only that rabbit weren't in the way. I could get a much better look at the house and those folks I have been sent to spy upon. I will have to find another vantage point."

But, wait, what is that? Do we have an army of gnomes? Perhaps they are scouting out appropriate spying spots. We will have to keep an eye out for their activities too. Spying can be a two way street. I will inquire of some of the "Old Bastards" at our next coffee. I am sure some of them have continued contacts with Military Intelligence. (NO, that is not an oxymoron.)

Old Bastards might be a good place to start in unraveling the mystery!

you'd think the old bastards had something to do with it...

but jerome new you'd be lonely and needed a gnome in your life. so he asked a certain friend here to hide his cousin gnorman in your car (who then spoke to someone who is close enough to you to get your keys).

i will have to send this post along to the lady that jerome spoke to about hiding gnorman in your car.

I love a mystery.

The Old Bastards will deny everything. In fact, they may have even forgotten what they did by now.

:) We had a similar problem too, bot not with appearing gnomes, with big, blue, glass pebbles. It was like everywhere I stepped in the backyard, pebbles were beneath my feet!
