On the way from Giverny to Rouen we stopped in Les Andleys to walk up to the ruins of Chateau Gaillard. The path was quite steep and it is an active roadway for the residents of the area. Periodically we would have to step off of the road to allow vehicles to pass. Maryann was not sure if she could make it all the way to the top. I am proud to say that she did make it. The photos below show a beautiful view of the river and the town from the ruins.
Building on the bluffs overlooking the river offered a modicum of protection during the age when the Chateau was first erected. On this particular jaunt we did not have anyone guiding us and telling us much about the Chateau. There was a guide along to insure that we did not get lost. They wanted to be sure we got back on board on time, too.
