#704 A Trip in the Offing

This weekend we embark on a 12 day whirlwind tour of some national parks.  Our dear friends will be visiting us from France.  They had expressed an interest in visiting some of the national parks.  Maryann put on her travel planners hat and set to work.

As near as I can remember, we will begin our motor tour early Saturday AM.  We will travel West across Kansas, spending the night in Goodland.  We will then travel through Colorado.  I think we will travel through Boulder and Vail while going on to Rawlins, WY for another night.  From there it is on to Jackson, WY.  Yellowstone Park will be next, then on to Glacier Park in Northwestern Montana.  After that it is heading back home through South Dakota and a stop at Mt. Rushmore.

You can believe that there will photos.  Some posted here, some posted on FB.  Some will be at Slide.com.  I will try to post some daily when possible.  So stay tuned.

Neat! Well, can I please make a suggestion? If it is possible, watch Ken Burns The National Parks: America's Best Idea before your friends go on the trip... I bet after the documentaries, your friends will appreciate the national parks a lot more. If there isn't any time to watch all 6 parts, watch the first 2, it detailed how Yellowstone became a National Park, all the struggle and sweats and tears was recorded. The road to becoming a National Park, and thereafter maintaining a "Park" had been a long hard one. How I wish everyone entering any of the National Parks would have seen the 6-part documentaries, going with a renewed sense of appreciation... but, I admit, that is my wishful thinking.

Have a safe travel.

Have a grand time, Dad! I will try calling the cell on Sunday morning and we'll see if you have service. :) Tell the Duez's Bonjour from Kevin and me.

Just wish you could have really taken them on a road trip and come here to visit us, too. xoxo

How fun Jack! I have been to Yellowstone Park and Jackson WY when I was 14 years old. I think there is a ghost town somewhere near there?

Enjoy your trip!
