The date was July 22, 1967. The time was 7:00 PM. The occasion, our wedding. Here it is 42 years later and the three people in the photo are together for a visit. The flower girl, Gail, came to visit us for the week. It is fortuitous that it coincides with our wedding anniversary. A lot has happened since then. We have had two daughters. They have completed college educations. Both of them are now married. The older one lives in the LA area with her husband and newborn son. The younger one lives in Portland with her husband, two cats and a dog.
Maryann and Gail took time to look at our wedding album. Apparently there are a few letters among the keepsakes. One of them that I wrote to Maryann's parents. They weren't too sure that their daughter should marry a soldier, particularly one who had a previous marriage. It took some time, but we were able to form a wonderful friendship. I grew to love them like they were my own parents.
Some of the things I mentioned about Maryann was that she was loving, kind and loyal. I was correct then and she still is. We have been able to forge a strong relationship that is full of fun and an occasional frustration. We have figured out how to share the requisite leadership, and build the strong ties of love.
I am a most fortunate man to be sharing my life with Maryann. She is my inspiration and the light of my life. Besides, who else can help remember things that happened just a short time ago.
Thanks for saying yes and I do. Happy Anniversary. I love you.
