#520 Yes We Can!!!

It is 2220 hours here in the heartland and the announcement has been made that Senator Barack Obama has been elected to be the next President of the United States of America.

I am listening to Senator John McCain's concession speech. It is spectacular.

Our great country is taking another step forward in its growth. I was never sure that I would live to see this day. Now our work has just begun to bring this country together for a more prosperous time where we can all benefit.

It is now 2320 hours and I have just listened to one of the most inspiring speeches I have had the privilege to hear. I am filled with so much positiveness and hope that I may find it difficult to get to sleep tonight. As I think back over my lifetime and some of my duties as a Military Police officer, I am overwhelmed that we have reached this place and time. When President-elect mentioned the events of the civil rights movement, I was reminded of the very small part I played in some of those events. I am proud to be an American. The best is yet to come. It will take time and a lot of effort, but we shall achieve. All we have to do is to serve with integrity, care about those we serve and share the love in our hearts and souls.

i can only hope that we all mirror your thoughts, were as inspired as you were, and that our newly elected president stays safe... so he CAN become the force behind the changes that are coming.

It was an excellent speech.

Now, let us not only hope, but put in our soul and effort to build a better America.

With mutual respect, I don't stand this day as positive as you, my friend. Of course, we both know we differ politically. But there is no doubt that this is a new day, and a new era. What will come of it, well, you know the analogy I've used here. Says the zen master, "we'll see..."

What we both do share is a love of America, and a hope for the future: not so much for us specifically, but for the generations to follow. My nieces and nephews, your daughter and grandchildren. For them, let us hope that the new era is a good one. God Bless America.

Jack, I'm still speechless but a warming calmness has enveloped me and it's a wonderful feeling.

Hope is on the way.

The speeches, both McCain's concession and Obama's acceptance were inspiring in their own right.

Regardless of how you, I or anyone voted, he dye is cast. We are all in this together and we can only hope and pray he is successful.

Jack,

I was working on scanning some more of my old pictures from my tour of duty in the Navy so that they'd be on file for some future posting.

I came across three photos that gave me pause to reflect and I ended up somewhat haunted by them.

I spent several hours over a two day period Googling and going over some my old records and mementos of those years and posted the story.

I know you like stories of the military days and I think you might find this interesting:

or a step back. Hope the ol' boy starts spreading some of that wealth my way pretty soon, but looks as though I will have to get in line behind the automakers.
