It seems like only yesterday when my unit was called upon to fly to Oxford, MS to aid in the integration of the university.
It seems like only yesterday when my unit was called upon to proceed to Selma, AL to provide security for the march to Montgomery.
It seems like only yesterday when the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his stirring, I've Got a Dream, speech.
It seems like only yesterday when another historical event took place, a Black American was nominated for the position of President of these United States.
I am proud to be a citizen of a country where this an happen. It is part of why I am proud to have served in our Nation's military.
Now, like other times in our country, it is even more important for us to show that we can come together as a nation.
It is even more important for us to examine the issues of most importance to us all, not just focus on what's in it for me.
For too long, it seems, the powers that be were focusing on themselves.
For too long lower and middle class people have borne the burden of making this country wealthy, but at their own expense.
For too long we have demanded/accepted more soporifics so we could inure ourselves from our reality.
Is it any wonder that we have literacy problems?
Is it any wonder that we have higher incidences of violence among young people?
Is it any wonder that we have a general ennui about our situation?
Is it any wonder that we have a plethora of things to keep our minds benumbed so that we don't think about doing something to make change?
It is about time that leaders step forward to change things.
It is about time to throw the money-lenders out of the temple.
It is about time to say, Enough!!
It is about time to get involved and vote our conscience.
Only we the people, can make a difference.
Will you do your part?
