#414 What is your exercise book? - Messiah's Handbook

The world is your exercise-book, the pages on which you do your sums. It is not reality, although you can express reality there if you wish.

You are also free to write nonsense, or lies, or to tear the pages.

It is an interesting concept to contemplate.
  • What is my life all about?
  • How do I know that I am living a worthwhile life?
  • Is living a worthwhile life a reasonable goal?
  • Is blogging just another way to capture the exercise book?
  • If I can lie about it, who will know?

These are some interesting questions that happened to pop into my mind at the moment. My guess is that you will have some other questions prompted by the citation above. If so, share them here or post on your site and make a link here.

My goal is to figure out my life's goal. I am coming to the conclusion that a big part of it is to be a teacher. There is nothing that gives me greater pleasure than helping others discover things about themselves that they might not have thought about. It is particularly exciting when I hear someone suddenly declare, happily, that the "get" something. It is this experience that helps me recognize whether I am doing something worthwhile. That seems like a reasonable goal for life.

Blogging may be another method for living a worthwhile life, or it could just be a subterfuge. Only time will tell.

Feel free to share your own views. Or, not.

In the meantime do your sums, write your reality, lie or tear the pages, and continue to....

Serve with integrity, care about those you serve and share the love in your heart.

i'll simply answer your questions posed, dear jack:

What is my life all about?
not to sound like i'm 'coining' jack, but to serve others... i've always put people before me. it's in my nature. i live to support, love, help heal, motivate and make other people's days the best they can be.

How do I know that I am living a worthwhile life?
when i look around me and see that i'm surrounded by good people. AND those occasional times when i see my work effect others in a positive way.

Is living a worthwhile life a reasonable goal?
it's not a goal, to me it's a given. i died once, a long time ago... i came back after the doc's had given up. while i slip off the wagon once in awhile with bouts of depression or whatever... i can't NOT live a worthwhile life. i mean.. what other choice do i have?

Is blogging just another way to capture the exercise book?
hmmm... no, it's yet one more way to communicate to the masses or few that we're not all that different. we LEARN from each other, our experiences, our stories and more. what others choose to do with those pages is up to them.. read between the lines, or as you stated above; maybe some will simply tear 'em up.

If I can lie about it, who will know?
that's always the writer's choice. those who know you well enough likely will.. but in the end, YOU will have to live with that decision to do so.. do you really wanna do that? not me...
