This is purported to be the most photographed gate, ever. Not wanting to miss out, I risked it, and took the shot.The next stop was the Basilica of San Albino. It was designated a minor basilica in 2008.
The gazebo in the center of the main square in Mesilla commemorates the location of the signing of the Gadsden Purchase. It also recognizes the Butterfield Overland Trail.
The next photos show the Double Eagle Restaurant where we enjoyed lunch and the decor. It is said that there are a couple of spirits roaming the building. The story can be found at the link.
The bar is reminiscent bars in old time saloons, right down to the art work. The food was quite good. The service was excellent.
These are photos show some of the shops and galleries. We did make a few purchases at the William Bonney Gallery. They have some beautiful artwork there.
We also visited the Preston Contemporary Art Center. The artwork there was outstanding.
For a future trip you would be well advised to visit Old Mesilla. The shops are quaint. The food was good. The sights were wonderful.

You know, looking at your pictures, I must admit that El Paso is a lot prettier than I would have guessed.
