#234 So you want to be a CELEBRITY?

Apparently there are a number of people who are taking Andy Warhal's comment about "15 minutes of fame" seriously. It is amazing to observe the lengths some folks will go to achieve that form of "success."

It might be interesting to determine just what celebrity means. To some it seems to mean:
  • Look at me
  • I am worth observing
  • I made it you didn't
  • Doing outrageous things is not just OK, it is mandatory
  • It takes guts to do what I just did
  • Make a fool of yourself as long as it makes the evening news
  • Do whatever it takes to insure you make the national news
I wonder what happened to:
  • Integrity
  • Honor
  • Showing concern for others
  • Not being concerned if you make the news
  • Doing the right things
  • Serving others
  • Caring about those you serve
  • Discovering the love in your heart and sharing it
  • Realizing that true celebrity is earned without flaunting one's existence
  • Altruism for its own sake?
These are just a few of the things that have been flitting around in my brain recently as I observe those folks who have forgotten/never learned who they truly are. Discovering your "true self" is a scary thing. My suggestion is to learn to respect yourself as a first step. Once you pass that hurdle the rest will come easier.

For those of you who have gotten this far, if you think of other things that might serve this posting better, please either comment here or post on your own web journal. Let me know, because I value you such input.

In the meantime...

Serve others, care about those you serve and share the love in your heart.

you should look at my recent weaselonastick post that directs people to another site - showing what SHOULDN'T BE DONE when you are a celebrity.

Your second list "I wonder what happened to" describes Billy Graham to a tee.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if all *celebrities* were like him.

=sigh=

You've never said a truer word Jack, than "discovering your true self is a scarey thing."

this is one of my many issues with "reality" tv... it's all about acting like an idiot for attention... and from the viewers' standpoint, it's sheer voyeurism... not the illegal-but-sexy kind either! lol

Insightful stuff. I wish I could get all of Hollywood to read what you just wrote.
