By the middle of the afternoon of this day we will be back home in Lansing. We were gone from May 9th to the 31st. It was a great trip.

We are officially in Kansas and traversing the Kansas Turnpike. We won't leave it until we are about 10 miles from home.

El Dorado Lake is quite interesting in the past 20 some years that I have driven by it has always had those dead trees sticking up out of the water.

We are about to drive through the Flint Hills. Usually they are rather bleak looking due to dry weather. This time due to a rather large amount of rain they are magnificent. If you go to google maps and ask for directions from El Dorado, KS to Emporia, KS, you will get to see the portion of the Flint Hills that I-35 goes through. I checked the satellite version and it shows the barren look of the hills.

These are cattle pens along the turnpike between El Dorado and Emporia. I'm not sure whether they are a rest stop for cattle or a loading area for the cattle that graze on the hills.

This rock formation looks somewhat like some that I have shown from other areas we drove through. Here we are rapidly approaching the exit we will take to go North to Lansing.
It won't be long now. First we will stop at the Post Office and pick up 3.5 weeks of mail being held for us.
That is Lansing in the distance.
A new welcome to Lansing sign. That wasn't there when we left. Of course we didn't pass this way when we left either.
Did I mention that Lansing is undergoing some major upgrades on Main Street? They have made quite a bit of progress since we left. The Post Office is in the small shopping mall at the top left of the picture. We had a very full bin of mail. It took us about 2.5 hours to get through it all. There were a lot of catalogs to recycle.
I would have gotten a better picture, but there was some traffic coming up behind us and we didn't want to impede them. Besides, there was Hazel to tend to.
Well that's it folks. You have seen most of the 500+ pictures I took in the 3.5 weeks we were gone. Much of the land looked familiar. Much of it did not. It was a marvelous journey. Spending time with the kids was fun and the week in Vancouver, BC with friends was a blast. After this posting I will get back to other more mundane postings. I hope you all enjoyed the trip. We did.

The next two photos were taken at the last rest stop in Oklahoma. Since I usually am the one to begin the daily drive my picture taking was somewhat curtailed. Maryann tends to get a little nervous when I hold the camera above the steering wheel. I promised her to not do that anymore.

Really enjoyed our trip Jack, please invite me along on the next one.
Glad you could come along. I rather like this way of sharing a journey. I think a friend named Peter from Australia planted the seed.
Thank you for the inspiration.
