#128 Report Three from El Paso
Who left the freezer door open? Yesterday morning the temperature in El Paso was around 38 degrees. Hey, this is El Paso. It’s supposed to be warm. The high only got to about 48. Prior to packing for the trip I carefully checked the 10-day forecast at weather.com. Highs were to be in the 70’s and 80’s. How neat is that. Nothing but shorts, polo type shirts and bare feet. Right? I packed accordingly. Thankfully I did bring a wind breaker jacket along with me. I knew it would be cool when I returned to Lansing so I was prepared for that.
Here it is Easter morning. I am sure those folks going to sunrise services will be dressed much warmer than they had planned. Hopefully, the temperature will get to the 70’s as predicted.
It must have been tiring for Mom on Friday, because her voice was very soft when we conversed on Saturday. Due to the coldness, she turned on the furnace. It is quite loud. That made it even more difficult to hear her. I was doing rather well until she asked me a question. I didn’t hear it and realized she was expecting a response more than uh-huh. Busted.
Keith and I had some errands to run. He broke the frame to his glasses and we had to get them replaced/repaired. The WalMart vision shop did not have the frames, but did give the address of a glasses repair shop. Fortunately it was open on Saturday. We arrived at the shop, located across town, at the opening time. The owner did not. Oh well, 10 minutes is fashionable. The glasses got repaired and we were on our way.
We also stopped by the framing shop where Keith gets his paintings framed. We wanted to see how one of his latest paintings would look with matting around it. Well, wouldn’t you know it, Alfredo took Easter weekend off. We will visit him on Monday.
The next stop was to the grocery store for ingredients for dinner. I have a stir-fry chicken and mushroom recipe that is quick and easy and very tasty. (Thanks, Shannon.) It is a good idea to look at your shopping list when you go shopping. I forgot the mushrooms. We had to go out again. They were a bit expensive but really nice, white buttons, and very clean.
Keith and I were able to put together a very nice meal. (btw, if you don’t have cooking sherry, Chardonnay will do nicely.) He prepared fresh green beans, and chopped the green onions for the stir-fry. I chopped the mushrooms, sliced the chicken, made the marinade/sauce for the chicken, and made the rice. It was a very nice meal.
All the time, Mom is asking what she can do. The usual response was, “Nothing. We have things under control.” Did I mention that she usually has a glass of wine on the rocks by her side? Her favorite is a Carlo Rossi, vin Rose. At less than $10 a jug it satisfies her. At 93, it keeps her happy, and who are we to argue with her. We usually do, and it isn’t worth the effort.

A mixed day Jack, as you said at 93 pretty much what Mom wants is OK.
