This was the second time for me to visit this memorial. It is quite an experience. Should you find the time to get to Hawaii this is one of the sites you will want to visit. Lots of folks do go there. The National Park Service, the US Navy and the TSA all work together to make the experience worthwhile and it is efficiently and effectively operated. Go early. The lines form quickly and it can take some time to get out to the memorial.
Did I mention you should get there early? This is an example of the length of the lines. This was about 8AM. I have no idea who the folks are in the foreground.
The number two gun turret with a view of mooring spots for the other ships that were moored along battleship row on that fateful morning.

An impressive memorial Jack.
thanks for this post. in my many visits back to hawaii, i've never visited pearl harbor or any of the wwii related sites. chicken-ass, i guess.
my dad was stationed at pearl for a good part of the war - and stayed on after - that's why i was born at tripler's army hospital, even though my dad was in the navy.
thanks again jack!
It was a moving experience and a beautiful memorial.
I'm glad you all liked it. I must admit, I was apprehensive to go see it again. The last time I saw it was on a rather cloudy day. My remembrance of the vision of the ship just below the water was an eerie one. There are more than 900 hundred bodies still entombed there.
bird, should you ever decide to visit the Memorial, you won't be disappointed. You won't have to be there long. It is so well planned, that you are only there for about 15 minutes at the most. That is all the time you need to reflect on the site and its meaning.
Shannon, glad it meant something to you. I know Kevin was keen to visit it.
i regret missing the chance to go to the memorial.
thanks for the amazing pics that paint a pretty vivid (if not grim) picture of the site.
oh, and btw, i responded to your TYPO mention on fuzziechadsrule.
good to see that all that Hononlulu sun didn't impair your vision at all....
